Cedar
Posted By Bridget Indelicato on January 2, 2010
After months of research and searching for a dog to join our household, we have finally found our lovely 10-week old chocolate lab that we’ve named Cedar. Her purebred parents, Jack and Riley, had a litter of 7 pups on October 21, 2009 and we were told that Cedar was the shy runt of the litter that has grown into a sweet, active girl. In the last few weeks at her first home, she shared her crate and playtime with her brother Tommy, also one of the last to find a new home. Besides being absolutely gorgeous, Cedar is super smart and has begun playing fetch with us with her tennis ball and rubber-duck-on-a-rope, and she already answers to her name. We’ve decided one of her nicknames is Shadow since our curious little one is always trailing us when we walk across a room, get something to eat or head to the bathroom. And she keeps one eye open when she naps in case she needs to jump up and follow us somewhere. She’s also very clever and mischievous. When it’s time to go outside to do her business, she literally drops and fakes sleep in an attempt to avoid the frigid temperature (which we never fall for but appreciate her effort). Last night was her first night with us and her first night away from her parents and Tommy in a new crate, which led to lots of dramatic whimpering. I spent the night on the couch next to the crate to help soothe and comfort her. And yes, like true parents we are tired but happy.
Luc & Daneen’s Wedding
Posted By Andrew Silk on October 30, 2009
Luc and Daneen’s wedding this past September was fabulous. Bridget and I had such a great time.
The nuptials took place at Camp Wakonda near Sault Ste. Marie, which is a kick-ass venue for a wedding. The setting was perfect for the wilderness junky — big trees, lakeside view, fall colours everywhere. There were several cabins as well as lots of space to set up tents, which we opted for. The main reception hall easily fit the 150-200 guests for dinner, and there was alot of outdoor space for bocci and basketball, as well as many great locations for photos. Big dogs roamed and ran in packs like the wild beasts that they are. The weekend was part-wedding and part-friend/family reunion. Lots of folks showed up on Friday and gathered around a big lakeside bonfire and stayed right through until Sunday. I re-connected with friends who I hadn’t seen in years. It was great to see everyone again.
As my friends will tell you, I am a bit of a pyro (okay, maybe more than a bit). So of course we brought fireworks and giant sparklers. B and I planned on setting them off on our big day, but due to rain we weren’t able to. While I was lighting and firing off the multi-shot cakes, I looked back at the crowd and saw Luke waving two sparklers around yelling “This is awesome!!” Even though we weren’t able to use them at our wedding, we felt so good to be able to put on a good show and celebrate at theirs. It kinda brought me back to my wedding day. Bridget admits it made her tear up.
Here are the photos that Bridget and I took during the weekend. I hope to have the video I shot cut soon.
Got the funk out
Posted By Andrew Silk on September 28, 2009
So I will start by acknowledging that it has been way too long since we last posted anything, but we have been making the most out of the summer and will soon post several stories, many photos and a few videos about what we’ve been up to.
Several weeks ago I began to get pestered that my version of WordPress was out of date. So I updated WordPress along with several of the plugins including NextGen Gallery (NGG). All worked well except that my slideshows and lightbox effect got funky and crapped out. Spurred on by the fact that I have hundreds of photos from a few weddings and many camping trips, I sat down to sort it all out. After reading through various web forums, I found that a critical file was missing for the slideshow. Once I downloaded and linked the file, the slideshows are back in business. I still haven’t sorted the lightbox effect so I will continue to use the shutter effect until I have more time to play with it.
At my friend Luke’s wedding this past weekend, he commented that he wanted to have a site that would allow his guests to upload their photos at full res unlike Facebook or Flicker, which scale down the quality to screen res. That way he would be able to print them with no loss in quality. I think this is a great idea so I am going to try to find something like that to intergrate in to my site as well. I know I would like to get my hands on some of the photos that friends took at my wedding as well.
Stories, photos and video to come soon. I promise.
